Regular vaccinations are a vital component of any dog or cat's healthcare plan. Not only can they help protect your pet from potentially serious and life-threatening diseases, vaccinations can help your pet live healthier over the course of their life. A full clinical examination is provided with each vaccination.

Heartworm Testing and Prevention

Anywhere there is a mosquito, your dog or cat is at risk of heartworm. If your pet hasn't been on any heartworm prevention or prevention has lapsed, it may be worthwhile testing for heartworm prior to any preventatives being given. Your vet can discuss this with you. Some preventatives cover heartworm alone, while others are also effective against intestinal worms, fleas and ticks.

The heartworm injection (ProHeart) can be given to dogs from 12 weeks of age, followed by a second booster at 6-9 months, a third booster at 15 months of age (vaccination booster is usually due), then yearly for life.

Arthritis Pain Management

Signs of arthritis may include stiffness, limping, reluctance to get up and down stairs/furniture, licking affected joints, vocalisation or aggression when touched. Treatment may include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs),  monoclonal antibodies (beransa, solensia), chondroprotectants (cartrophen), joint supplements, in addition to adjunct management including weight control, exercise modification and rehabilitation. 

Beransa for dogs and Solensia for cats, typically involve a series of three injections, one month apart.  The response is then assessed to determine ongoing treatment.  

Cartrophen will be a course of four injections given at weekly intervals, followed by a booster injection every one to three months.

Microchipping

If your pet likes to wander, is an escape artist or simply becomes lost, your pets microchip can be scanned at a vet, animal shelter or local council and the database checked and your furry friend returned to you. If you relocate or change your phone number, you MUST update your pets microchip details in order for your pet to be reunited with you.
